PROCESS
Video Consultation
Every legacy film begins with a video consultation where we take the time to understand your family, your story, and the person at the center of the film. We discuss key life moments, meaningful relationships, and any specific memories or themes you want to preserve. This conversation helps us shape the direction of the interview and ensures that what we capture reflects what matters most to you. It also allows us to answer questions, set expectations, and prepare everyone involved so the process feels comfortable and intentional from the very beginning.
Digitize
Many families have boxes of photographs, VHS tapes, and other media that hold irreplaceable memories but are at risk of being lost over time. As part of our process, Northbound Legacy Films offers digitization of these materials so they can be thoughtfully incorporated into your film. We carefully convert photos, slides, and home video formats into high-quality digital files, allowing these memories to be preserved and woven seamlessly into the final piece. These elements add depth, history, and visual richness to the stories being told. Please note that we are not able to digitize 8mm or 16mm film at this time. If your project includes those formats, we can help guide you toward a trusted third-party provider. While every effort is made to handle all materials with care, clients remain responsible for their original media during the digitization process.
Interview
The interview is the heart of the legacy film. We create a relaxed, guided environment where your loved one can share their story in their own words. Our approach is conversational rather than scripted, allowing for natural reflections, emotion, and personality to come through. We guide the discussion with thoughtful questions, but we also leave space for unexpected memories and meaningful tangents. The goal is to capture an honest and complete picture of a life, preserving both the big milestones and the smaller moments that define who someone is.
Editing
After filming, our team carefully shapes the interview and supporting materials into a cohesive and compelling film. We thoughtfully select moments, structure the narrative, and integrate digitized photos and videos in a way that feels seamless and purposeful. Music, pacing, and visual detail are all considered to ensure the final piece reflects the tone and significance of the story being told. The result is a timeless film that families can return to for years to come, experiencing their loved one’s voice and presence in a deeply personal way.
